Safaricom Business Unveils First 25 Winners in Shangwe @25 Enterprise Promotion

Safaricom Business - the company's enterprise arm,  has announced the winners of its Shangwe @25 nationwide promotion. The competition was held to appreciate Safaricom's business customers who have been with the telco for over the past quarter century.

The promo was all about celebrating Safaricom's 25 years in Kenya, and it sought to reward businesses of all sizes by giving them much needed assistance in areas such as support for innovation, growth and community-based projects.

MSMEs & Large Enterprises Reap Big Rewards

In the first draw, 25 businesses got a nice surprise, they won prizes that were tailor-made to help their businesses thrive.

  • 10 small to medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) each got a brand new Bajaj Tricycle, to help them in matters logistics and last-mile delivery.

  • 9 businesses were given KES 250,000 to restock their shelves, which will really help them stay on top of their cash flow and get the products their customers want.

  • 6 large enterprises were each awarded KES 500,000 to put towards a corporate social responsibility (csr) project of their choice.

These prizes were specially selected to reflect Safaricom Business's aim of supporting businesses at all stages of growth.

The Full List of Winners

Here are the MSMEs that got Bajaj Tricycles : Sakifarm Limited, Millys the Redbeet Fresh Mat, Tito Busienei, Leonard Oongo, Carrix Media Group Limited, Samuel Kimando, Alex Wasike, Manjok Ltd, Douglas Onserio and Muriiri Girls Secondary School.

As for businesses that won cash prizes to restock, winners were : Ebee Mobility Kenya Limited, Justus Kiprono Koros, Robert Nyakundi Ayuka, Taifa Sacco Limited, Federico Investments, Robstar Premium Fit Ltd, Sawe Cheruiyot Mais, Ronak Distributors and Golden Green Properties Ltd.

And large enterprise winners who got KES 500,000 each to fund their CSR projects included Moringa School Limited, the European Union, United Nations Federal Credit, Vivo Activewear Ltd, Kenya Human Rights Commission and GlovoApp Ltd.

Safaricom Reaffirms its Commitment to Enterprise Growth

Speaking during the announcement, Frankline Okata, Acting Chief Enterprise Business Officer at Safaricom said the promotion was just a way of saying thanks to all the businesses that had been with them every step of the way over the past 25 years.

“The Shangwe @25 promo is our way of saying thanks to all our customers. The winners were just random lucky folks - but they represent all the small businesses we work with every day. We remain committed to giving them the tools they need to grow and thrive,” he said.

How Safaricom's Solutions are Changing Lives

For Elijah Sawe, CEO of Sakifarm Limited, mentioned that Safaricom's business solutions had made a difference in how they work with farmers.

Sakifarm uses a range of Safaricom services like bulk SMS and M-PESA for Business to manage payments and communication with over 300 farmers.

“At peak season, we make over 100 payments a day. With automation, we've been able to build trust with our farmers, cut costs and stay competitive,” Sawe noted.

CSR Funding Boosts Digital Skills Development

Nikki Germany from Moringa School was thrilled to get the CSR funding, and she highlighted just how important it was for them to be able to reach more young people with market-ready tech skills.

“This contribution really strengthens our mission to equip young people with the skills they need to succeed. It allows us to reach learners who would otherwise miss out on such opportunities,” she said

How Enterprises Can Participate

Businesses can join the Shangwe @25 promotion by buying, renewing, or reactivating any Safaricom Business service, including voice, internet, cloud, IoT, cybersecurity, or M-PESA for Business. Each transaction earns one entry.
