Ever wanted to top up a friend's, family member's or second SIM card's Safaricom number without using your own line? That's where the USSD code method comes in—or what we call "Indirect Top-Up." You can load airtime directly onto another Safaricom number using a scratch card. That's a lot more straightforward than Sambaza, which has its limitations. (One of those is minimum balance requirements.) And with this method, you won't be deducting from your airtime balance or affecting your active subscriptions (like SMS, data bundles and so on).

You'll need an unused Safaricom scratch card and a Safaricom phone or SIM. Any Safaricom line will do for topping up another.

Here's how you do it:

1️⃣ Dial the following USSD code:

*141*Scratch Card PIN*Recipient’s Safaricom Number#

2️⃣ Example: If the scratch card PIN is 123456789012 and you want to top up 0722000000, dial:

*141*123456789012*0722000000#

3️⃣ Press the Call/OK button
4️⃣ Both you and the recipient will receive a confirmation message from Safaricom.

Why Use Indirect Top-Up Instead of Sambaza?

✅ You might want to use Indirect Top-Up over Sambaza because you don't need a balance to load airtime.
✅  Your subscriptions won't automatically consume your balance either. And it's faster and more convenient—that way, you don't have to transfer airtime manually after loading it on your own line.
Faster and more convenient – No need to transfer airtime manually after loading it on your own line.

That's the simple trick to quickly and easily top up another Safaricom number without any hassle.
