Residents of Egetuki in Gucha Sub-County, Kisii County have been told about government’s plan to establish ICT hub in the area. The awareness session, held during community baraza, aimed at educating locals on the benefits of digital connection and how technology can empower the economy.
Government’s Commitment to Closing the Digital Gap
The session was led by Gucha Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Esther Kung’u and other local government officials and stakeholders. DCC Kung’u addressed the gathering and said the government is committed to closing the digital gap by making essential ICT services available.
“The government is working to ensure all Kenyans can access digital services without traveling long distances. This will bring opportunities to the community’s doorstep,” she said.
Benefits of the ICT Hub
Once operational, the ICT hub will offer:
Fast internet for residents.
Digital skills training to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.
E-government services for locals to access government platforms online.
The initiative will benefit youth and small business owners to use technology for innovation, e-commerce and career growth.
Part of Kenya’s National Digital Transformation
This is part of the government’s plan to establish 1,450 ICT hubs across the country, one in each ward, to promote digital literacy and economic empowerment.
Government officials assured residents that stakeholder engagement will continue to ensure a smooth roll out of the project. Local leaders urged community members to grab ICT training opportunities and be ready for the digital transformation that will impact education, entrepreneurship and access to services.
As Kenya digitizes, Egetuki ICT hub will play a key role in driving innovation and economic growth at the grassroots level.
