Samsung Galaxy A57 5G and A37 5G Launch in Kenya: Practical Upgrades, Longer Lifespan

Samsung doesn't always nail it in the mid-range space. Some releases are just a bit...meh. But the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G and Samsung Galaxy A37 5G have me hopeful that they're finally making a more concerted effort to bring some genuinely useful improvements to the table.

Not every feature here is going to blow your mind - but a lot of it feels like the kind of stuff you actually want in a phone.

"Awesome Intelligence": For When AI Actually Makes Sense

Both phones are running One UI 8.5, with Samsung's AI suite tossed in as Awesome Intelligence. I've gotta say, what stands out to me is the focus on practicality over gimmicks:

Voice Recorder - now with a few brains

You can get the recorder to automatically transcribe and translate your recordings - which, if you're a student or pro, could turn out to be one of the most valuable features in the phone.

AI Select

Long-press on the Edge Panel and you can grab text or images right off the screen and stuff 'em into a note or an editing app. Sounds simple, but it cuts out a whole lot of fuss and bother when you're juggling a bunch of tasks at once.

Circle to Search gets a bit more clever

Now it can pick out multiple objects on one go. Want to circle an outfit and get results for every item in it? Yep - it's not going to change your life, but it's one of those little tweaks that actually feels like it makes sense.

Camera: Making Do With What You've Got

Both phones have a triple-camera setup with a 50MP main sensor. That's by the book. Where it gets more interesting is how the images actually turn out.

Samsung have upped their game with Nightography - that's low-light imaging for you non-geeks - and that means:

  • Better pics in dimly lit places
  • Less noise and grain
  • Nighttime snaps that don't need loads of fiddling with settings to get right

And the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G takes it another step further:

  • Quicker shutter speeds
  • Even better noise reduction
  • Best Face for group shots

Anyone who's had to deal with a group photo where someone's face is blurred or they're blinking can tell you how much of a difference that makes.

Performance and Cooling: A Clear Distinction Between the Two

The A57 5G clearly positions itself as the more capable device.

It's got:

  • Better CPU, GPU and NPU performance
  • A bigger vapor chamber to keep things from getting too hot

And that cooling system... that's a big deal. Gaming, recording video, juggling loads of tasks at once - all of those things can struggle from overheating and throttling. A bigger cooling system says to me that Samsung are taking that seriously.

The A37 5G, on the other hand, just feels like a solid everyday phone rather than something with high-performance ambitions.

Display and Battery: Not Going to Blow Your Mind, But Will Do

The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G has a Super AMOLED+ display with some seriously slimmed-down bezels. Samsung usually do a great job with displays - and I don't see why that should change here.

Battery life

  • A big 5,000mAh capacity
  • Up to 2 days (although I'm not sure about the latter claim)

Charging on the A57 5G is Super Fast Charging 2.0 - so about 60% in 30 minutes. Not exactly earth-shattering, but reliable and solid - and sometimes, that's all you really need.

Durability, Security & Privacy: Where Samsung Shines Quietly

Samsung quietly sets itself apart from many of its competitors in these areas.

Both phones come with some seriously useful features including:

  • IP68 rating – water and dust resistance - thats a given these days but its good to know the A's got it
  • Samsung Knox Vault some serious hardware-level protection going on here

New to the table are:

  • Private Album : a way to lock sensitive media away from prying eyes
  • Privacy Alerts - it flags suspicious access attempts before you even know its happened

All this may not sound like major marketing points but it really is the kind of thing that makes a difference over time especially since phones are carrying more and more personal data.

Software Support - Samsungs Real Standout Commitment

So what's Samsung promising you with these new A's?

  • 6 generations of Android OS upgrades - thats pretty rare for mid-range devices
  • 6 years of security updates - if you can afford the A57 thats almost unheard of

Its not just a few years of support then fall behind - you can realistically hold onto these devices for much longer without falling behind on security or features.

Pricing & Availability in Kenya

Samsung Galaxy A57 5G

  • KES 68,300 (8GB + 256GB)
  • KES 60,900 (8GB + 128GB) - honestly that one feels like a pretty sweet deal

Samsung Galaxy A37 5G

  • KES 60,200 (8GB + 256GB) - for that price Im not sure its worth the extra cash
  • KES 49,000 (6GB + 128GB) - the lower model is a definite contender for value

You can get both models at Samsung Experience Stores and authorized retailers across Kenya.

Final Thoughts - Smart Upgrades & a Bit Of a Question Mark on Pricing

I get what Samsung is going for with these phones and on balance Im impressed.

So whats to like?

  • Long-term software support is the best in class easily
  • Practical AI features that actually solve a problem as opposed to just being gimmicks
  • The durability and security credentials are seriously strong

Where its all a bit of a struggle though is:

  • The pricing feels slightly off - and thats the understatement of the year
  • To be honest performance gains may matter more in theory than in real life

If I had to pick one Id say the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G is the better value - its worth the price of entry if you want the best. The A37 5G is good but its not exactly the value leader.

Would I recommend them? Yeah but with one warning : if long-term reliability and software support matter to you then these are a no-brainer - if you're on the hunt for raw value then you might want to shop around first.
