The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the operating licence of Super Metro Limited due to multiple safety and compliance breaches. The suspension takes immediate effect and traffic police have been instructed to impound all non-compliant vehicles under the sacco’s fleet.

Why Was Super Metro Suspended?

NTSA’s statement highlights the following infractions:

  • 15 vehicles with expired road service permits.

  • 109 drivers above the speed limit.

  • Labour law breaches related to employment contracts.

  • Nearly 300 vehicles with issues with speed limiters:

    • Expired speed limiter certificates.

    • Vehicles above 80 km/h.

    • No valid speed limiter records.

Who Is Affected?

  • Passengers: Avoid Super Metro buses until further notice.

  • Drivers: Those with expired licences will have to retest.

Enforcement and Next Steps

To get back into compliance, Super Metro must follow NTSA’s directives, which are:

  • Vehicle inspection at Likoni Inspection Centre.

  • Mandatory retraining for drivers.

  • Payroll audit to resolve staff contract breaches.

Until these conditions are met, Super Metro is banned from operating on Kenyan roads. Passengers, please look for alternative transport services.
